PAIR OF LATE LOUIS  XVI GILT BRONZE AND STEEL CHENETS

Circa 1785

Height  10 inches (25.5 cm.)
Width 10 5/8 inches (27 cm.)
Depth 22 inches ( 56 cm.)

Each chenet has two gilt bronze eggs on waisted stands resting on steel blocks mounted with gilt bronze rosettes above top-shaped steel supports which terminate in ball feet.

The blocks are joined by a steel cross bar with an applied gilt bronze frieze of oves and surmounted by a band of gilt bronze pearls. Iron log supports extend backwards and at mid-point have polished iron log stops of up-ended top shape.
